The Origin of Overreaction

The Origin of Overreaction
12-16-15
Wednesday
Relationship Day

Overreaction’s Origin
In the time of the Cave Man
She and he
Faced many dangers
It was the time for “fight or flight”
If you couldn’t outrun the beast
You had to fight him
It was the time to react swiftly

Fight or flight
It’s no longer that time
We no longer have the constant need
To physically protect ourselves
Or we better not think we do
That time is over
We must accept the new reality
It’s the time to think

Think and respond
Think calmly
Then and only then respond
The cave man now
Needs to be turned into
The Thinking Man
Homo Sapiens
The wise man

No more overreaction
Take a deep breath
Breath!
It’s time to respond
It’s time to think clearly and calmly
You will rarely come across a beast
It’s the time to think
It’s a time for wisdom

More on Overreaction

More on Overreaction
12-15-15
Tuesday
Child and Family

Overreaction
It’s the prelude to anxiety
Which is a worry about what might happen
Not just a concern
But a worry
Followed by another and another…

Worrying
It’s a troubled state of mind
It’s anxiety
It’s distress, it’s uneasiness
It’s not a healthy state
It’s not helpful

Overreaction
It leads to anxiety
But anxiety doesn’t build up
All by itself
It takes me to fuel the fire
Which I cause by my overreaction

We fuel the fire
It only burns as hot as we make it
It may first be just a flicker of a flame
Don’t overreact
By adding a new worry
That will make the fire grow

Stop the fire of anxiety
Don’t add on another worry
It will only make it worse
Stop!
